Franklin County Schools is celebrating the continued success of its Bluegrass Community & Technical College Academy (BCA), now in its third year. With 37 students currently enrolled and the first cohort having graduated last year, the program is proving to be a transformative opportunity for high school students seeking a head start on college and career readiness.

Students who complete the program earn an associate degree from BCTC, positioning them ahead of the curve as they transition into higher education or the workforce. The program’s structure allows students to attend classes full-time at the BCTC Lawrenceburg Campus while remaining enrolled in Franklin County Schools—ensuring they can still participate in extracurricular and co-curricular activities.

Pathway to Enrollment

Interested students are identified by high school counselors based on BCA eligibility requirements. Franklin County Schools has historically hosted daytime and evening information sessions to guide families through the application process. Additional details are available on the BCTC BCA website, which outlines program expectations and application steps.

Support Beyond the Classroom

BCA goes beyond academics by offering robust student support. During their first year, students benefit from Friday programming that includes tutoring, grade monitoring, and seminars designed to build success strategies and confidence. These resources help students stay on track and thrive in a college environment.

Affordable Access to Higher Education

One of the most compelling aspects of the BCA program is its affordability. Families pay approximately $4,000 out-of-pocket, compared to the typical $10,000 cost of an associate degree. This reduced cost is made possible through the KHEAA Work Ready Dual Credit (WRDC) and Dual Credit (DC) scholarships, along with a 50% tuition reduction.

Looking Ahead

As the program enters its third year, Franklin County Schools remains committed to expanding access and celebrating student achievement. With strong partnerships, thoughtful programming, and a focus on equity, BCA continues to be a shining example of what’s possible when schools and colleges work together to support student success.

Thank you

A huge thank you to our very own Director of College and Career Readiness- Charles Lewis and to Allyson Van Arsdall from BCTCS for everything they do to make this program successful.
